Learn without uploading a file. These guides explain the same private inspection and repair controls used in the workspace.

Quick-start tutorial

Your first STL repair.

Learn how to inspect and repair an STL without uploading it anywhere. Start with this 3D example, then try the real repair tool on a deliberately broken sample.

Your first repair, step by step.

Select a step to see the example change. The instructions stay here so you can read at your own pace.

  1. Read and accept the processing terms, then choose a file or select “Try a deliberately broken demo.” Your original stays unchanged and processing runs in your browser.

    What to watch for

STL is the main format. OBJ and 3MF are detected automatically but remain experimental: geometry comes in, STL comes out. Materials, textures, and slicer settings are not retained.

  2. Read the Defects report, then use the defect navigator’s Previous and Next controls to focus individual issues. Red highlights locate the selected defect.

    What to watch for

Use X-ray or Cross-section to inspect hidden geometry. A designed screw hole is not automatically a defect: its inner walls can form a closed surface. Check what an opening is meant to do before sealing it.

  3. Choose Safe repair, answer whether the model should be closed, and review the conservative repair plan. Select “Apply safe repairs.” For the built-in tetrahedron, choose “Yes, it should be solid” to repair its missing face.

    What to watch for

For your own file, preserve intentional openings; leave “I’m not sure” selected if you do not know. Safe repair removes supported defects such as duplicate or degenerate faces and fixes winding. If problems remain, inspect them before trying Aggressive Solid Rebuild. Rebuilding can alter fine detail, thin walls, and openings: a closed mesh alone is not proof of a faithful repair.

  4. Switch between Original and Repaired, inspect the change record, and read the fresh geometry checks. Compare important dimensions, cavities, and small features before downloading a separate STL copy.

    What to watch for

For a rebuild, inspect Deviation too. Reopen the download in your slicer, confirm the units and layer preview, and keep the original. Geometry verification does not certify strength, printability, or safety.

This cube illustrates the controls, not a guaranteed repair outcome. The workspace’s built-in broken tetrahedron runs through the actual repair engine.

If the result still needs work

Stop when the repair changes the intended shape. Keep the original and use the remaining defects to decide what needs a manual edit. More aggressive settings are not always a better fix.
