01

Start outside

Read the silhouette first.

Surface mode is the clean baseline. Rotate the part, check thin features, and compare the original with the repaired copy before looking inside.
02

Look through

Separate shell from hidden geometry.

X-ray moves the model onto a dark depth field. The translucent shell stays readable while bright rear-facing surfaces reveal internal shells, trapped pieces, and overlaps.
03

Cut precisely

Slide a plane through the part.

Choose X, Y, or Z, then sweep the cut position. Flip the visible side when a cavity is facing away from the camera. Nothing is deleted from the STL.
04

Verify the diagnosis

Focus the exact affected geometry.

The defect navigator moves the camera to one issue at a time. Red geometry is the selected defect, not a general warning painted over the whole model.

Quick reference

Which view should I use?

Surface

Shape and silhouette

Start here for ordinary rotation, edge-to-edge viewing, and the cleanest original-versus-repaired comparison.

X-ray

Hidden pieces and overlaps

Use the opacity control until the outside shell is readable but bright internal layers remain distinct.

Cross-section

Voids and wall thickness

Sweep X, Y, and Z. A defect can disappear behind the visible half, so use Flip visible side too.

Defect focus

Exact affected region

Step Previous and Next, filter by defect type, and keep the red highlight visible in every inspection mode.

Now choose how much geometry the repair may change.
